The School Gard

We are so lucky because our class has some space in the school garden!
We have planted some broccoli, lettuce and coli flower. We are excited to see our plants grow over the year!

Ruben the Road Safety Bear

Last week we had Ruben come to our school to visit us. He taught us how to cross the the road. There are 4 rules they are STOP, LOOK, LISTEN and LINK.

He taught us to look out for sneaky driveways and wear to bright clothes when we are walking. We must always make our seat belt go CLICK when we get in a car. He showed us how to cross the pedestrian crossing safely.
We loved Ruben! He was purple and funny.

Term 1

The Water Cycle!

This term we had a science focus on Water. To study the water cycle we followed an inquiry model. The inquiry model has 6 stages Activate, Enquire, Investigate, Organise, Use, and Action. Here is briefly how we followed this cycle when studying water.

Activate 

This is where Miss Tupai showed us lots of books, stories, photos and diagrams of different things to do with water. As a class we had lots of brainstorms about what we knew about water. We even learned a water song.

Enquire

As a class we talked about what is a question and how to ask good questions. We practiced asking questions during news time and then had a think about all the things we had looked at during the Activate stage. Miss Tupai helped us come up with the question "Where does water come from?"

Investigate

We had so much fun with water. We did lots of experiments. We made steam, we froze water, we tried to make clouds. We also used the rainbow fish story for art. We made our own.

At this stage we talked about where can we find our answers? What places can you go. We came up with theses answers.
A book, the computer, ask mum and dad, Miss Tupai, Make a phone call, A scientist. Even ask ourselves because we think we already know :)

Organise

With Miss Tupai's help we started to organise our information so that it made sense to us. We were able to organize our information into diagrams as a group

Use

We decided to make a video of us explaining the water cycle, you might have to listen carefully to some of it as we forgot to talk into the microphone in the computer. But we tried really hard to make a video that told people about what we now know about the water cycle.

We have been learning a lot in Room 6!!!

Our First Movie

We made this movie with beads and a camera. We put down one bead then took a photo. We then put down another bead a took a photo. We tried to make a rainbow. It wanted it to look like the rainbow is appearing and then disappearing.
It doesn't have any sound. We will learn how to put sound in our next movie.

Super Heroes!

Today we were super heroes!

We are super learners. Here we are as super heroes.... you may not recognize us...

Belonging in Room 6

We have been in  Room 6 for weeks at school and had a talk about what it means to belong to the classroom and school.
We wear our uniforms and it show that we belong.
We are all friends in room six and we all have to work together to be super hero learners.

GRUMPY BEAR

This we were reading the story Grumpy Bear by Jill Eggleton. It is about a very grumpy bear who wants to go to sleep but the other animals kept waking him up! When bears sleep in winter it is called hibernation.

Science and Technology

Floating and Sinking

Equipment: Clay, Water, Container

What did we do?

1-  We looked pictures of boats.

2-  We talked about the shape of boats

3-  Miss Tupai brought the clay and we saw it sink to the bottom of the container

4-  - Miss Tupai changed the shape of the clay to look like the bottom of a boat and it floated.

5-  We then had a try…

Results: Luke was the only one that could make the clay float.

What have we learned?

That the boats shape is what makes it float on water. It is very important to have this shape or your boat will sink. There can be no holes in the boat or water will get in and it will sink.

We have been learning about some ways we could present data.
Data is the information on a chart.

It is important to have a title because it tells us what the data is.
